End-of-life planning

Information and resources about end-of-life planning.

Overview

Decisions regarding end-of-life planning should be discussed early after a dementia diagnosis. Open communication with family, caregivers, and health practitioners is helpful in confronting end-of-life planning with respect and care.

Palliative care

Palliative care can be provided in different settings, including:

  • Clinics
  • Hospitals
  • Individual’s home
  • Nursing homes
  • Hospice
  • Special care homes

The Extra-Mural Program:

The Extra-Mural Program provides health-care services, including palliative care, for New Brunswickers in the comfort of their own homes. They also provide services to residents of special care homes and nursing homes.
